Law Girl: Sarah Graham

Which team do you play for and what position?

I play for Swift Justice, usually at centre, but positions don’t really exist on Swift Justice.

Describe your team in three words.

Lots of spirit.

If you had a team mascot, what or who would it be?

Steve Hughes. He’s calm, cool, and collected. Also, looks great in a suit.

Advice to future students wanting to dabble into hockey?

Most girls seem very hesitant to join, as it is not a regular university intramural or sport that you played in gym class, but it really is open to ALL experience levels, including zero experience. The most important thing is to have fun and make new friends. Nothing brings a group together quite like chirping the med school team.

Favourite hockey-related event in law and why?

Either Hockey Night in Law, because we’ll have more than just Greg Prizent and a few other male admirers as fans, or a post-game brewski, aka Palm Breezy, in the dressing room with the girls, Coach Paul, Coach Steve, and Faiz the Trainer.

Law Guy: Paul Grenon

Which team do you play for and what position?

I play defence for the Tortfeasors. I am also head coach of Swift Justice

Describe your team in three words.

Pabst Blue Ribbon.

If you had a team mascot, what or who would it be?

We actually do have a mascot and, coincidentally enough, it is also Steve Hughes. Like most mascots, he isn’t good enough to play on the team but still wants to be a part of it. He also brings beer to the games, which is very important.

Advice to future students wanting to dabble into hockey?

Definitely do it! The law school has three teams so, regardless of your skill level, there is a spot for you. We also have Friday hockey every week that anyone can come to, and play a game of shinny.

Favourite hockey-related event in law and why?

Two events really stick out. First is Hockey Night in Law, which takes place on January 22. All three of the law teams play that night, and we try to get a big crowd to come out. The fans have a bunch of fun cheering on the girls and mocking the guys. It can get a little rowdy in the stands, and that really makes the game feel a lot more exciting.

The other event is alumni weekend, but I can’t give any details about that. What happens during alumni weekend stays at alumni weekend.
