Judicial Appointment for the Honourable Wayne N. Renke
Joshua Samac (2L)
Late in the midst of the 2014 December exam season, U of A law students were surprised to learn that Vice Dean Wayne Renke (as he then was) had been appointed to the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench. If not already heard, we wish him resounding and collective good wishes and felicitations.
Mr. Justice Renke received both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts in Philosophy at the University of Alberta. He, then, went on to achieve a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Alberta. He was called to the Alberta bar in 1986 and received a Master of Laws from Osgoode Hall in 1995. He practiced law for six years.
Mr. Justice Renke had been with Alberta’s Faculty of Law since 1993 and has served in a variety of positions. His teaching and research interests lay predominantly in Criminal Law and Oil and Gas. Many of his first year Criminal Law students will remember him for his firm but fair approach to teaching.
This man is truly an exemplary lawyer and teacher. No doubt he will continue to serve the people of Alberta. He will be missed at the U of A, though many of us will see him as we approach the bench.
